Enjoyable and Intriguing Read

Central Park Story had me laughing out loud. Living in NYC for 5 years I felt a special connection with this book.

The story is about a boy named Christopher who has an interesting background and personality. He lives in Manhattan NYC and finds Central Park to be an oasis of fun, excitement and a place to escape to. What starts out as an interest in the park becomes something no one would guess. He is an easy character to develop an attachment to.

One of the most admirable aspects to this book is the author's care and attention to detail. Every historical fact about the park is correct which makes reading Central Park Story not only fun but educational.

I'd highly recommend it to anyone from age 12 and up who would like to take a break in their own chaotic lives by getting lost in this enjoyable and intriguing read.

A Delightful Read!

Central Park Story: Am I going Nuts? is the first of a new series of books that will have great appeal to readers of all ages. Rick Trout has captured the angst and travails of teenage adolescence in a delightful novel cleverly interwoven with mysterious talking statues, historical moments and a dash of literary classics! The dialog is smart, colorful and edgy and certain to appeal to teens. The first book ends in a bit of a cliffhanger which makes you want to read what will "what will happen next" in book two! Needless to say, I look forward to its release with anticipation - Congratulations Rick Trout!

I really enjoyed Central Park Story

I really enjoyed Central Park Story, and was hooked right from the start by the strong narrative voice of the protagonist, Christopher Middleton. His quirky manner as a newcomer at school makes him an engaging and fun character. The author utilizes a creative means of telling the reader numerous facts about this truly fascinating place - Central Park in NYC. But best of all is the way in which Christopher discovers who among his new friends is truly worthy of his friendship. A very fine piece of creative writing that left me feeling good. I hope the next book in the series appears soon!

About the Author

They did not disappoint. Moon is still Moon but has also noticeably ...

I read and adored all for the Raksura books so I was impatiently waiting for the new stories. They did not disappoint. Moon is still Moon but has also noticeably grown/settled and his relationship with the court has developed. While the story of Indigo and Cloud was excellently done by keeping Cloud very much not Moon but still very likable and relatable (which I would have thought would be tricky because our idea of the "perfect" consort is so tied up in Moon versus the "usual" consorts, or maybe that's just me). Though for me it was more the story of Cerise, who I liked a great deal. Moon will forever remain my favorite.

Can not wait for future stories and hope the author does not stop playing in this world.

Utterly fantastic: a world you will never want to leave

How wonderful to sink myself once again into Martha Wells' delightfully rich and layered world building of the Raksura, a universe which seamlessly blends both science fiction and fantasy elements. In The Falling World, Moon shows his increasing mastery of complicated court traditions and politics (and his still somewhat obtuse and bullheaded approach to Raksuran interactions that so delighted me in previous novels.) When Jade and Chime, et alia disappear on a routine trading mission, Moon, Stone and crew hare off on a search and rescue mission that is the best kind of flying road trip, and find something absolutely astonishing.

The second piece is a novella in which we finally learn the full backstory of how Indigo "stole" Cloud, in a nice untwisting of the damsel trope. One of the things I adore about the Raksura novels is how customary gender relations do not apply in their culture. Another is how the byzantine dance of court diplomacy can avoid bloodshed in the right claws. Brilliant!

In addition, there are short stories such The Forest Boy, and if anyone was wondering how tiny Moon survived as a fledgling without a family, this is one such story, where he finds, for a short while, a home. Once again the microcosm is complete and satisfying, and your heart will ache for young Moon and his friends and the confusions of growing up. Also included is the story of when Chime, to his profound dismay, first shifts into an Aeriat. Oh, Chime.

I cannot recommend this volume highly enough.

Short Stories, Repeats, Not Much Development.

I absolutely love the Raskura and especially Moon, who is the main character. However I was a bit disappointed that though I knew it was going to be short stories ( a bit sad in and of itself) there was only one new one containing Moon really, and it wasn't about much.

The first short story does contain a small adventure, but no further development of his status in the colony, with himself as a consort, or anything is shown. It feels more like a filler story to appease those wanting to read more about him, but not really being satisfied as there was nothing in it that developed him or the colony from what was written.

The second story is about the history of the colony, and as a short story, yes it does add a bit of depth to the Raksura you find yourself reading about. It let's you learn how they came to be, and the relationships that were forgotten about and developed with other colonies generations ago.

The remaining 2 short, and I mean very short stories, can be found on her webpage. They are nothing new. And were put on her web page a few years ago. I guess it's nice having them in print, but really, I am disappointed. Martha Wells claimed she was going to be publishing a couple other short stories over a year ago on her webpage, but they never came to be. I would have hoped that her promise on them would have a least filled those last pages instead of repeats of what she already freely put out for others to read.

Satisfying, with a surprise twist

Hontas by V.M. Sawh is the story of Hontas (Pocahontas) and John, bounty hunters extraordinaire in Wyoming 1880, the real wild west. They are assigned a job which consists of disrupting the laying of train track by a magnate known as Smythe. Their first attempt doesn’t go so well and ends up with a wounded Hontas careening through a rushing river, sliced and expelled. The non-linear story timeline and non-stop action means this is a hard short to put down.

The second confrontation with Smythe goes more to Hontas’s way of liking. I found it a very satisfying sequence, with a surprise twist. The larger themes of the story are equally satisfying, both that, as Hontas says, “Red. White. We all bleed the same,” as well as the idea that progress (such as the laying of train track over the west) inevitably destroys traditional ways of life. Craft wise, there is some repetition of words and some minor omissions but nothing that seriously detracts from your enjoyment of this fast-moving piece. There are several evocative descriptions of authentic scenery, although I wished there might have been even more, since this is one of the things people love about Westerns, the vast and exhilarating landscape. All in all a fun read over lunch or with a cold drink in hand.

Pocahontas like never before. and it's good.

The Western genre holds a special place for me. What little boy didn't dream of being a cowboy or an Indian? I believe I was equal parts of both most times.
There just isn't enough GOOD Westerns being written these days.
While this is a novella size story, it packs big Western punch. It carries with it the grit and fortitude of the old West. You can smell the gunsmoke and the campfires just reading this one. There isn't much character development, but that leads an air of mystery to the shady denizens of this tale. It is hard to pick out who is good and who is bad but instead settles for shades of grey.
Speaking of characters, that is another shot that this one fires into the bullseye. Usually, if you take a historical character out of their setting you are doing it for comedic value. I can assure you that is not the case here. This is a rough around the edges and tough as nails Pocahontas.
I look forward to more displaced character stories and hopefully a full length novel.

Hontas (a.k.a Pocahontas) has teamed up with John as a bounty hunter. The mission they're on is a dangerous one, and the historical depiction of the harsh treatment of Native Americans is disturbing.

This story was brutal and violent, but there was depth and emotion to it as well. It was interesting to see the interactions between Hontas and other Native Americans, and it was certainly not what I would have expected. But it honestly made a ton of sense.

I loved the relationship between Hontas and John, although I was hoping to see more of it.

Overall, this was a well-written and compelling tale, and I look forward to reading more works by V.M. Sawh in the future.

Nice second entry in series.

This is a 3.5 star for me, but I upped it on the 'show' of stars because not many readers have reviewed this so far and I don't want to put people off.

This is a second in the series and written as well as the first story - which is to say that the author is still getting her writing chops and hopefully going to work out that you need to outline your story (before or after it is written) so she can see where the errors in continuity happen, which can be glaring.

Anyway, this isn't my type of preferred and enjoyed story: the hero treats the heroine poorly for certain reasons yet she puts up with it and falls in love with him, no matter how much he makes her feel like nothing. I was particularly disturbed by his hating on her physical build, telling her outright, and then showing much much much more enjoyment in other women who had the body type the hero had told our heroine he wanted. Yet she puts up with him pursuing and salivating over these others then easily accepts that he still wants her and finds her attractive because he has a hard on. See why I don't like this type of story?

All that aside, it is a very nice second addition to an expected three part series, although barely a standalone and should be noted as such. It is worth reading if you liked the first story and I plan to read the third. I would suggest to the writer that she add to her Amazon account that you can be notified when she another ebook out so she doesn't get lost in the masses.

What would you do to protect your mate?

This book was even better than the first one and there is more world building to add on to what was started in book #1. I highly suggest reading the first book in the series before tackling this one though. You will enjoy this story much more and I suspect that you may feel a bit lost in this book if you don't.

On to the review. This author excels at creating lead characters that have realistic issues in their lives that need to be dealt with before they can find their HEA. I also really appreciated the way Jameson dealt with writing our hero's character flaws and what they result from. Hopefully without spoilers I would just like to say that when I was growing up we had many foster children and I also worked for Children's Aid for a number of years which gives me the ability to state with assurance that the things that happened to Vesh and his sister as children, do indeed happen in real life as I've seen the results of it myself. The way Vesh dealt with it is also very realistic and while some reviewers have stated they didn't like how he bounced back and forth, again I say that it is indeed quite reasonable. In fact I thought he dealt with things perhaps a bit better than would be possible so quickly. Of course the 'mate' bond definitely helped things along. Too bad there really isn't such a thing in real life.

Braeh is a very strong and resilient heroine. She also has some issues to deal with but nothing as life altering as having to deal with Vesh's baggage. I loved seeing them learning to deal with each other and discover their love.

I also liked seeing Kerrigan and Trager again and we got to see their relationship growing. I love the fact that Jameson doesn't have love instantly solving all of the problems so they can easily have their HEA. I wouldn't really call these books cliffhangers because the MCs definitely get their story wrapped up in such a way that you know that, with perseverance, they will get their HEA. All of them are going to have to work hard for their love though. On the other hand, the overarching series story line is definitely left in a state of tension where I really, really want to read the next story now, like RIGHT NOW!!!

I can't wait to read Cael and Isabesh's story. It is sure to be even more heart wrenching than this book was. I highly recommend this series. I hope you like it as much as I did.

I read this in the kindle unlimited program. Although I suspect I'm going to end up purchasing this series for my 'read again' shelf.

Was a pretty good book. The action was kind of slow. Was waiting for the fight to start of Vesh and his alpha Jax who has his sister. Slow in places, but then would pick up. Did enjoy it and it did leave room for more books. Alpha wolf who has been abused his whole life doesn't know how to love. Meets his mate and his wolf starts to heal. Not bad, read if u enjoy this kind of books.

For some, this will have a negative impact and takes away from enjoying the book as it did for me. Otherwise the paranormal scenes were quite interesting.

This book was a romance with a touch of paranormal.I struggled with it from the beginning to be honest, and only the last 20 pages or so, were actually interesting.Nothing much happens during the rest of the book, except for the fact that we 're being told over and over again how strange Clair is.David is a very emotional character, and not in a good way, and Genevieve is far too annoying.I wish the rest of the book was as interesting as its last few chapters, but to me it wasn't.

"A SHIVER OF WONDER"-- I have read several books of Daniel Kelleys' short stories. They were Great! But this Novel is Amazing and full of Wonder! What if you could experience years of living your own life, then be introduced to yourself to discuss it? Yes? And that is just a part of this book, which is all about the intricacies of relationships, learning to Love yourself, to be true to yourself and whom you will eventually evolve into being. Every character is believable and realistic. Every page jumps out to you with a promise of the next page being even more intriguing. This Authors’ imagination and writing skills are quality all the way. If I could only read Daniel Kelleys' stories and books, I believe that would be enough…for me. 5 STARS!!!

A GREAT READ!

I've been a fan of Daniel Kelley's writing for some time now and this novel is my favorite thing he's written. The characters are interesting and believable (even when - or perhaps because - they defy logic). The story is fascinating. I'm a firm believer in 'willing suspension of disbelief' when reading and that definitely contributed to my enjoyment of this book. For readers who don't believe in the possibility of paranormal incidents, it's possible to look at things in another way - - but to me, it's much more fun to go along with the fanciful version.

I won't spoil the story by giving details. This is a delightful read - - I heartily recommend it.
