This was an amazing series and did not end how I expected

This was an amazing series and did not end how I expected. Nor how I wanted it to. I really thought that Zander was the better male. He have up on everything..his status, his position, and his impending mating with another vampire to rectify a mistake he felt he had made with Keely. He even gets abducted, tortured, and basically raped in order to get back to her.
I took no comfort in who she ended up with. I mean he ABDUCTED and had planned to kill Zander for being competition and took no remorse in it. Then at then end talks about how honorable and loyal he is.
The thing that really turned me off was the idea that this twenty three year old virgin meets Zander, sleeps with him within hours of getting there. Then meets Kormas (who is a notorious male slut) and is suddenly in his bed writhing all over him. Then when she threatened to kill him he brings one of his other concubines in to pleasure him while she is pleasured by HIM??
Then falls in love with him??? Can you say Stockholm syndrome anyone? Zander may have made a mistake by refusing her, but how many mistakes did kosmas make?
With all that said, I have to say this was an incredibly well written series. It does have you one the edge of your seat and doesn't let you go. I read all of these stories in one day because I couldn't wait to find out what happened. Granted, I was stunned at how it all turned out, but what I ride it was getting to the end. Please read it for yourself. I only HOPE that Zander meets someone worthy or him. Just didn't think Keelye was it...Kudos to the author....

Awesome Ending to the First Vampire Series

I love vampires. This ending to the first new series has many things a fan of the genre looks for. It's sensual, exciting, mysterious and fun. A definite must read for paranormal romance readers! Keely is an intelligent, beautiful and strong willed female that is trying to overcome her circumstances. One thing is she does not expect to find two irresistible Alpha Vampires. Kosmos and Zander are all alpha!!!!! I absolutely LOVED the build and chemistry between these characters. I felt it all as if I was one of the characters, right there going through the experience(s) (awesome!) I look forward to much more from this author :). Note: Everyone has their favorite reads and this happens to be one of mine. To each his own.

Everything as it should be

Absolutely loved the book...the series...I was hoping and knew deep down inside that Kosmas was the one Keely would choose...Zander refused her and then decided oh maybe that was a mistake....Kosmas for all his arrogance never left her and always cared for her even if he did have very strange ways of showing that.
I know people are going to complain about it being a short book...but you know what...buy all five and it won't be short and no waiting for the next book and the series is so good it is an embarrassment to complain about the length.
Looking forward to the start of the second part of the series.

This is a fantastic book that is doing really innovative things

This is a fantastic book that is doing really innovative things! Imogen is just the heroine that YA has been waiting for - she's realistic, she's troubled, she's happy, she's multi-faceted. She's overweight and depressed and she's talented and loved. You'll be drawn into her story thanks to Kelsey Macke's amazing writing and you won't want to put this book down.

It's also unique because Kelsey Macke wrote and recorded a soundtrack that goes to the book (with her husband and their band Wedding Day Rain). Throughout the book you'll find QR codes that lead you to original music that ties in perfectly to the scenes you're reading. The book is also full of pages and drawings from Imogen's journal, so reading this book is truly an immersive and interactive experience. So different than anything out there!

Kelsey Macke is an amazing talent, and this book will change the way you look at YA.

An amazing honest and sometimes heartbreaking look at adolescence and depression

I don't know how this book didn't get more buzz when it came out. (Maybe I missed it? Did I miss it? Because it totally deserves buzz!) But I am incredibly glad that I found it!

The synopsis describes the book well, but it makes the book sound much lighter than it really is. This is not an easy read. At all. But I loved it! The book follows Imogen, who has suffered from depression since her mother died when she was a child. She finds some solace in being a techie for her school's theatre productions and in her best friend (and crush), Grant, who has stood beside her through all of her darkest moments.

What I loved:

A realistic depiction of depression.
Even after reading Mishma's review, I still for some reason thought that this would be a lighter read. Maybe just the whole fairy tale reference thing made it seem like the book wasn't going to take itself too seriously. Well, that was completely untrue. This book was a completely realistic and sometimes dark look at depression. Imogen has some serious mental health issues because of her mother's death and her own insecurities. She often spirals into utter depression and can't pull herself out, no matter how much she wants to. She also struggles with cutting. Reading from her perspective was sometimes hard because Imogen is definitely a flawed main character. Not only is she incredibly hard on herself, she's bitter about the people around her because she has been bullied and because she sometimes just takes her own insecurities out on other people (at least in her own mind and in her journal - she isn't outright mean to people). Imogen feels broken and she doesn't know that she can be fixed. She knows that her feelings are wrong and sometimes irrational, but she can't change them. I found this to be incredibly realistic. The fact is that depression is an illness, and you can't simply tell yourself to cheer up and snap out of it. It doesn't work that way. And, while Imogen's friends help her through her pain, the mere presence of people who love her doesn't cure her depression. The book is hopeful, but realistic in leaving the reader with the knowledge that Imogen most likely will still fall victim to depression again, but that she has a support system and will be able to get through it!

Emotions.
I had no idea I would cry so much when I read this book. I cried. A lot.

Grant.
Grant is pretty much the perfect best friend for Imogen, and you can completely see why she's in love with him. Not only has he supported her through thick and thin, he is sweet and funny, and Imogen is lighter and funnier when she's with him because she feels like she can be herself when he's around. When Grant is in the story with Imogen, the book lives up to that cute, sweet feeling that you get in the blurb, and it's a great balance to the darker parts of the book. Grant is also nerdy, but in a totally adorable way (LOVE his sciency shirts!). And Imogen's other friends are awesome too!

Body image.
One of Imogen's main areas of insecurity is her body image. She weighs 200 pounds at five feet tall and she thinks about her size A LOT. I loved that Imogen did realize by the end of the book that she could look pretty and that size isn't the only factor in beauty!

Neutral:

Imogen.
Some people might have a hard time reading Imogen's perspective because it is really sad and dark sometimes. She gets down on herself constantly and she has some really negative thoughts about other people sometimes too. By the time we see her in a depressed episode, we kind of want to shake her and tell her to see the people who care about her around her. But that's kind of the point. The fact is that these people who love her can't fix her, she has to find ways to come to terms with life and help herself. So, it's hard, but realistic.

I honestly don't know why this book hasn't gotten more attention with the current trend of YA books that address mental health issues, but I highly recommend it. If you're ready for an honest and sometimes heartbreaking look at adolescence and depression, then you need to read this book! I give it an enthusiastic 5/5 stars.

An Amazing Read!

What Kelsey has done here is… well… phenomenal. She has created this creative, snarky, insecure in some areas but confident in others, true life, amazing character in Imogen. Imogen is chubby and struggles with food issues. She has dealt with depression since early adolescence…. but don’t think that this is some emo, woe is me tale. It’s not. Because depressed people? Chubby people? They have more depth than that. I’ve read so many books where the depressed person or the fat person is just this absolute cardboard cutout and Imogen? Cutout she is not. She has friends, she has things she loves, she has a family… and she is also overweight and depressed. What a concept, right?

The plot itself is an absolute roller coaster. Imogen’s horrible, awful, no good, very bad stepsister, Ella, comes to live with Imogen, her dad and her new stepmom. Ella is an absolute nightmare. While I was reading, I was feeling genuine rage when I saw her name. She is just the worst person on the planet and after she moves in, she immediately sets out on a mission to ruin Imogen’s life. Just because she can. It causes Imogen to start to spiral into depression and she starts to flail.

Which sounds like a thrill a minute, I know- but it’s amazing to watch this character that you have started to love (and more importantly, identify with) flail and, well, catch onto good stuff on her way down. Her friend Grant is a dream BFF and their relationship made this book for me. So good. And? It’s funny. I know it sounds dark (and sometimes it is) but Imogen is hilarious and her friends are witty and I know every single one of them in real life.

BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE! Not only is she an incredible author, Kelsey and her husband Daron have a little band called Wedding Day Rain. They released a christmas album last year that I listened to until like February. Because they are creative geniuses, after she wrote Damsel Distressed, they wrote a whole album based on the book. And while she was going through the publishing process, she was also going through the recording process. Did I mention that she’s an insane robot who doesn’t need sleep? So anyway, while you’re reading, you’ll happen upon a QR code hidden in these gorgeous doodles and wa-la, you’re hearing a song that fits right into that part of the story. IS THAT NOT AMAZING!??!?! I’m listening to the album as I type this and even separate from the book it is just gorgeous, but together? Dream team level.

Just read this. Buy this for the teenagers in your life. Recommend this for book club. Read. This. Book. And I’m just waiting for the day that I can get my own serotonin shirt.

A Tulsa Supernatural Thriller

I really enjoyed that this supernatural thriller took place in Tulsa, Oklahoma. I recognized most of the locations that were described. An excellent blending of modern life in Oklahoma and mythical creatures. The book and characters have a sense of humor, which I liked. Most importantly, it was unpredictable. I can usually guess what will happen next in a story or movie, but this was unpredictable all the way through to the ending.

Where is the next book

I loved the story. Fell in love with several of the characters. Praying that the characters I so fell in love with survive. The only thing I didn't really like is that it ended.

Great, fun read

Great, fun read. Several twists on kaiju I hadn't seen before and really strong human characters that kept the story moving forward without sacrificing depth. And how often do you get to see Springfield, Illinois destroyed? Well worth checking out.

Epic Tale!!!!

Wow! This is SO much more than just a Kaiju (giant monster) book. Mr. Dunwoody has taken something he's great at--apocalyptic fiction--and combined it with the world of giant beasts, Kaiju, and created an epic tale of action and adventure that you get totally absorbed and lost in. You feel like one of the group of adventurers. The characters (like in all his books) have plenty of depth and feel real, no cardboard cutouts here. They do real life human things, and they will surprise you. The writing is superb. The story unfolds at a great, exciting pace and when you think know something, you find out he's left some really cool things to discover. Hell Walks isn't just a giant monster story, it's an apocalyptic nightmare filled to the brim with quality writing and care. There's plenty of action, sure, but this one's got substance too. Like all of Dunwoody's novels, the characters are what make them so wonderful and most important, memorable. A roller coaster of a ride storyline that completely satisfies. Whether you're into Kaiju, apocalyptic fiction or just want to read a great tale, look no farther. Highly recommended!!!!

It was a great story, beautifully written

Just finished Hell Walks...and WOW. I was blown away. It was a great story, beautifully written, great character development, and a twist at the end that would make Stephen King proud. This is my first venture into Kaiju, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's not the zombie apocalypse genre that has been David's meat and potatoes, but I think this is one of his best works yet. It was a page turner from the first page to the last paragraph.

Aiden must find a way to keep Tony quiet, remain one step ahead of the FBI, and maintain his sanity long enough to find out who and what Jasmine really is…

I saw the book on Facebook and heard murmuring through friends and decided to pick up the book. I ordered it on my kindle and from the first moment i picked the book up i couldn't put it down. the story is gripping and spell bounding, humerus and captivating. the story was funny, enlightening and entertaining.....great read....loved,loved,loved the book. cant wait for the second book.

This book is like no other book I have read. It's not your typical story and that is what I love about it. All the characters were very unique which made the story more appealing. Throughout the book, when I thought I knew what was going to happen next, I was pleasantly surprised when I was totally wrong. I truly look forward reading the next book(s).

I wasn't sure how I would feel about this book but I must say I really enjoyed it. I thought it was going in one direction and it went somewhere else completely! I couldn't get through it in peace because my daughter keeps asking me "What happened?" She wants to read it after me and she already loves the main character (She's 14, what can I say?) More than anything this is what appeals to me. I like supporting new authors, especially if they have written something unique, but it's getting harder and harder to encourage youth to read. They just stay on line. So the fact that Mr Robins book has my daughter wanting to read it makes it extra special. I really hope that there will be more to come. We had Harry Potter, then Twilight and now we have The Shadows! Good work Mr Robins and I would like to ask Amazon to please continue to carry good quality reading material for our kids!

Good one! The author really gets down to business ...

Good one! The author really gets down to business about creating the big First Draft of a novel as championed by the NaNoWriMo project. It's humorous, encouraging, and very straightforward. This is the guide to getting a daunting project done.
But it's not the guide to creating deathless prose.
The best use was for me was to purchase it the month before I jumped into the "write a novel in a month" adventure. It gave me a blueprint of sorts so that I could stay on course. If you read it by itself, it is a useful enough guide to getting past perfectionism or the tendency to edit incessantly as you go along, or any of the other bad writing habits which will keep you from getting your job done.
But check out NaNoWriMo before you buy this so you know what to expect. If you don't, you might be disappointed that the book is exactly what it claims to be, and not what you were hoping up find!

Great book

Emmie has not been my favorite character in the series, but I really liked this book. What I love about the whole series is that all the girls are so supportive of each other and that there is nothing inappropriate for YA readers (no mean girls, drugs or sex) yet the books are so engaging and fun to read. Katrina does such a good job describing the characters' thoughts and feelings that you can't help but root for each of them, and she incorporates serious issues into her books so masterfully to show their human side but not being overtly educational or preachy about it. This is one of my favorite YA series, and one I will let my daughters read when they become older teens.

A wonderful change up in this book

Really enjoyed this book. So far I have loved the change of point of views that Katrina has done in the various books and this one did not disappoint! This particular book was told from Emmie's point of view. The one thing that this book had that the others didn't was the inclusion of the bad boy - loved him and this story! Such a great pairing! I am totally ready for Book 6 to come out.

A cutesy romance featuring one of our favorite Rosewood girls, Emmie. Emmy is a rich girl but in all the things that matter, she's poor, lacking. She's lonely, the holidays are approaching, and her best friend/roomate is leaving for who knows how long. Her ex-boyfriend wants to date her roomate, she's offended a troubled kid, and she's crushing on her best friend's brother. Her life is all too climatic.

Emmie's story was fun because despite all of her inner turmoil her book was light and fun, not unlike the others. The one thing that this book had that the others didn't was the inclusion of the bad boy. I really liked his character. It was like the spice of the book and I enjoyed it. I can't wait to see more if we get more. (Katrina, *hint hint*) Another great addition to a fun series!

I read the first book , it wasn't great but I decided to give the author one more chance. The story in this book (same as the first book) has potential but became boring and I was looking forward to finally finishing it. I also found some spelling mistakes and wonder if anybody proofread this book.
