This novel is about a foster kid named Steve. At the age of 10, - Steve decides to run away from his current, abusive foster family. They all endured terrible hardships with great courage and dignity, and never turned their backs on God, or their fellow man. Their wallets were never, ever, even half - full of money, but always filled with the currency that they, truly and jokingly, said mattered most to them, - Faith, Hope Charity, and Humor, - which they generously shared with all in need and which was of far greater value than money to many of the grateful recipients of their largess.
This is a sometimes mess, but always “clean” story. I hope that anyone who reads it will be able to see the kindness and fun in it, and won’t be embarrassed or uncomfortable by anything in it. I share it with you, with love.

The characters are richly illustrated and the story was beautifully told in respectful

As a community support worker, I have worked with many children and families who have both broken and touched my heart. Many times in the same instance. Clever Jolly, by Anna Brown is the type of book that breaks and touches your heart at the same time. The characters are richly illustrated and the story was beautifully told in respectful, intelligent and heart warming prose. If I was to read only one more tale of adversity and redemption this year it would be Clever Jolly. It was a pleasure and a tearful read.
