The Rovers were sent to decimate the Southernlands. Instead, they awoke its savior.
Ten years have passed since the Rover army tore through the Southernlands, leaving behind a trail of devastation and death. Most believed the attacks were random acts of brutality. The wise, however, knew the truth: the Rovers sought to destroy the one thing powerful enough to thwart their conquest. They were searching for the Papilion.
A new commander, bent on completing the mission left unfinished by his predecessors, leads the Rovers back into the Southernlands. Fierce and determined, he comes armed with a precious artifact and a secret purpose.
While the Southernlands reel under the new terror, the Purple Morrow, a harbinger of hope, appears to Jeru, an unsuspecting and solitary clan hunter. Finding himself enmeshed in a series of incredible events beyond his control, Jeru is compelled to take the first steps towards discovering his ultimate destiny.

I thoroughly enjoy this book
By KR Slifer
I thoroughly enjoy this book. From the language to the characters to the world created, the story is vividly told and sucks you in.
The Purple Morrow is about Jeru who has experience so much loss in his life, about Kelen who is commander of a band of Rovers pillaging the Southerland, and about Nyssa who is still waiting for the man she loves to come for her.
With three perspectives, the story could be confusing, but Dyane's use of separate chapters and page breaks makes the point of view change effortless. The writing style is eloquent and vivid. At times some of the descriptions took me out of the action a little, but I still wanted every detail. I could see everything, feel everything.
I loved the relationship between Jeru and Nyssa, but for some reason, Kelen is the one who did more for me. His inner struggles, the loss of memory from his childhood... maybe I just like bad boys that are actually sweethearts underneath. I can't wait to read Wolf's Bane and get more of Kelen. So much of the book he spent with a helmet on, I can't wait for so more descriptions... maybe some shirtless scenes?? Just kidding!!
I highly recommend this book. The world that Dyane has created is rich with life, dimension, and detail. It will leave you yearning for the next installment.

The worldbuilding is spectacular!
By Tanya Miranda
This book has you feeling as if you're living in Jeru's world. You can hear the waterfalls, feel the leaves as you walk in his forest, and you can even hear the thunder. The worldbuilding is spectacular. Jeru is a truly torn character, and I love emotional struggles. Heading to book 2.

A Fantasy drama filled with action and adventure!
By Candi Silk
For the reader The Purple Morrow begins with a simple map, a thoughtful add-on or accessory to the fantasy story filled with action and adventure. I found myself referring frequently to the map of that imaginary faraway land of Marathana as I began following the characters on their journey.
The author, Dyane Forde, does not detail the exact time period of her story, which helps in a good way to trigger the imagination of the reader as The Papilion Trilogy begins. And quickly I found myself immersed in the middle of the age-old human drama of survival.
Forde loads her story with relatable elements of people, their lands, treasures, tribes, families, and cherished relationships. But out of that crucible stirs a plot line marked with conflict, threats, kidnappings, suspense, and the human desires to hope, to aspire, and ultimately to survive.
The story of humanity through the ages is filled with quests for a sacred chalice, a revered grail, or other hallowed touchstone. In The Purple Morrow it is the search for the Papilion and its meaning.
Although the people of Marathana had simple shelter, clothing and foods, their emotions were as modern or as primitive as our current day. The reader is reminded that the emotions of love and hate are found within the same spectrum and sometimes close together.
Author Forde uses choice words to beckon the reader to experience twists and turns along with her characters. You’ll feel the weight of their primitive weapons, the stone arrows, strong deadly wooden spears, the whistle of a swinging axe, the weightless fall of a Cave dweller, and the soul-deep cry of fear. But you’ll also smell the aroma of an ancient stew cooked over a primitive fire, and enjoy the safety and comfort of home at hearthside.
Forde also brings the reader into the budding yet cumbersome romantic feelings of the H/h. The author navigates the reader diplomatically through potentially sensitive intimate scenes, making The Purple Morrow a perfect suitable read for family time at night.
But things are a bit unsettled and unresolved in Marathana. Although The Purple Morrow is a full novel, the author paves the way for Wolf’s Bane, volume two of The Papilion Trilogy.
My enjoyment of The Purple Morrow is worth five gold stars accented with the elegance of deep purple along with the hope that Dyane Forde will continue her quality writing! Well done, Ms. Forde!
