A race against time to save a school full of children from a religious fanatic!

In the near future, there is a Mennonite school filled with children that a supposed madman takes hostage of. He makes no demands of the authorities and only wants the one thing he cannot have. He also demonstrates some unusual qualities that make his hostages wonder whether he is completely insane, completely devout to God or a little of both. Special Agent Carson and his team are called in to end the hostage crisis once and for all. But can this situation be resolved without bloodshed?
This pressure-cooker situation is brought into stark reality by the author. With striking intensity, concise language and a minimum of preamble, this tightly-focused story twists and turns in directions you can never predict. Literal and figurative explosions come at you unexpectedly, already upending wherever you thought the story was going and taking it in bold new directions, leading you into a finale where nothing is quite what it seems and hits you with an emotional punch to the gut with its revelations. Deeper philosophical themes resonate here, intertwined into a taut story about the power of belief.
Like with the authors other works, this is the next of many interconnected stories that are completely standalone but slowly lay the foundation of his Labyrinth universe, which is a world to be fully fleshed out in a future full-length novel. I eagerly look forward to seeing what other excellent stories the author has in mind for this imaginative world and for us as readers. :)

Faith is another great tale from the labyrinth.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
That being said, I loved Faith. I have read two other of his stories from the Labyrinth but this is my favorite so far.
It is a story of strength and the need to look past the self to do what is needed for the greater good. I was left with questions like I have come to expect and look forward to reading more of this series.
While it is a short story, for me I found the length is a was perfect fit. I like to lay in bed and read a bit before sleep and I can read these stories in the time I allot myself without the dreaded...."just one more chapter" and next thing you know you have read far longer than intended.

Another fun short story from Samuel Peralta. This one only really held the slightest hint of sci-fi content, compared to his other works. The most intrigue I was left with after the end of the story was what exactly the gunner's purpose was. I'd say I'd love a sequel to find out, but since this is just a short story, I'm not holding out hope.
The author, however, did a great job of creating and developing the characters within just a few pages.
