About the Author
Todd Hido (born in Kent, Ohio, 1968) is a San Francisco Bay Area-based artist. His photographs are in the permanent collections of the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York; San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; and Los Angeles County Museum of Art, as well as in many other public and private collections. He has published over a dozen books, including House Hunting (2001), Roaming (2004), and Excerpts from Silver Meadows (2013). He is an adjunct professor at California College of the Arts.

Gregory Halpern received a BA in history and literature from Harvard University and an MFA from California College of the Arts. His third book of photographs, entitled A, is a photographic ramble through the streets of the American Rust Belt. His other books include Omaha Sketchbook and Harvard Works Because We Do. He currently teaches at the Rochester Institute of Technology.

The best educational photography book I have ever purchased

This book by Todd Hido is the most educational and insightful book on photography I have ever purchased. Todd Hido is full of insights, wisdom, and a down-to-earth sense that is uplifting.

There is very little fluff in the book-- you can learn tons of practical lessons that you can directly apply to your own photography.

Here are some of the lessons I've learned from Todd Hido from the book:

1. Make your photos "all killer, no filler"
2. Have a reason to press the shutter
3. "Measure twice, cut once"
4. Assume the "alter ego" of another photographer
5. Focus on psychology and relationships

Todd's work is amazing, in the book he goes straight to the point, of how he things about photography,and what drives him to get the amazing results, excellent print quality with different paper used on cover, really cheap for the wisdom showed, in my opinion if you appreciate his work , this is a must have.

I enjoyed this book and it inspired me to get out and take more creative photos. It contains several photo essays of Hido's work on the subjects in the title. Each collection of photos is accompanied by Hido's philosophy about photography. However, buyers should be aware; this in not a book on camera gear or technique. It will not tell what gear to buy or how to shoot landscapes, interiors or nudes.

I Must Know More!

Do you remember how you felt watching the first season of LOST? That's this book, Episode 1.

All I have are questions. Who is this guy? What is this organization? Why so many secrets?

The questions extend to real life as well. Episode 1? How many episodes will there be? Is this like a written version of a TV show? If it is, and they do seasons, will the final season promise to answer everything but only leave me with more questions?

It really doesn't matter. I'm sucked in. I must know.

Very good so far

Very good so far. It kept me reading and I'm just glad he's released Episode 2 already so I don't have to experience the waiting!

In a very short amount of time, the author is able to convey a great level of suspense and intrigue. The reader is instantly drawn in, and is asking questions and is making theories. It's very entertaining so far.

When a young man who is down on his luck receives an email offering him a mysterious job for an ungodly amount of money, he is suspicious, intrigued, and finally responds in the affirmative telling the unknown host of his interest. Meetings follow becoming ever more mysterious.

I've been a resident in Colorado and a Colorado Lover for 47 years, so you CAN "teach an old dog new tricks." This quiz would be a fun thing for families to take together. I really enjoyed this story

I really enjoyed this story. But there's one thing that irritates me about it. Ashley, the main character, dumped the love of her life when he became a werewolf (through no fault of his own). She did this because her entire family, and half the town where they lived, were murdered by a rogue vampire, so now she hates the supernatural world. Okay, she has a good reason, there. I'd spend the rest of my life trying to avoid them also. At least you'd think so. But nope. Her PA is a vampire. Most of her clients are supernatural. Apparently the only one she has a problem with are werewolves, who had nothing to do with the murders. Her ex in particular. It irritates me that this is a plot device to keep them apart. I like my plot devices a little subtler.

However, having said that, I really enjoyed the rest of the story. It was well written, and I'll look for the next book in the series.

The main character is bloody annoying. The author can't seem to tell the difference between a strong woman an a bratty child, because the main character is so obnoxiously immature it ruined a great story line.

Sexy, scary, funny

I have loved MJ's Half-Light City books, and have been eagerly awaiting the release of her werewolf tales. Well. The Wolf Within is a great introduction to an alternate Seattle peopled with werewolves, humans and vampires. This book has everything - sassy banter, a hero and heroine with a world of pain and love between them, and a villain you cannot wait to get his comeuppance. This book made me cry, and it also made me tense during the scary bits (and there are scary bits!) It's also hot, and funny, and damned hard to put down. A great few hours of my life were given over to living in MJ Scott's world, and I can't wait to see what she has coming up next.

Fun short story that introduces the Dragon Zoo series that is entertaining for all ages

Dragon Zoo: Night of the Prowlers by Martyn Perry is a nice short story at 28 pages that introduces dragons and his upcoming Dragon Zoo series. The book is written for the youth audience but as some one much older I found the book an entertaining read also.

The plot of the boo reviews around a a young man that decides to start a diary and write about his daily activities as a gift shop manager based on the side of a volcano. Life is usually pretty boring for him until one day when he is at work at this gift shop when strange things start to occur.

I won't give away what happens but you won't be surprised that it involves dragons. I give this short story 4 out of 5 stars for it's interesting plot and introduction to dragons. The story telling as a diary was different yet I wish there were more characters to read about.

The next Dragon Zoo book came out April 3rd and is titled Dragon Zoo: Apocalypse and is longer at 126 pages.
