Halfling Sula: half-human, half-comyenti, who has supernatural empathetic powers to merge her mind with animals, is torn. Feline is still missing after her personal quest to confront the bigoted comyenti Shazar to learn more about the mysterious Heartmerge. Sula and Felix are desperately looking for her, but will they ever find out the truth about what really happened to Felix's twin sister and Shazar's involvement in this tragic event?

Fascinating fantasy story that has many facets

This series really has me hooked – and not just because I love fantasy (and animals).
In a way, Natasja Hellenthal does much more than just present an epic adventure filled with magic and mythical creatures. She looks deep into the human soul, and she shares with the reader her views of the world. I love the way the author has woven advice and criticism into the story without ever taking anything away from the pace or the fascination.
Sulla is a wonderful heroine, strong and emotional and specially gifted. Although she understands a lot, she is also confronted with many challenges that leaver her wounded and wondering – and that make her change. I don’t like books where the protagonists stay the same over the course of all they go through, but luckily it was different with these two novels. Book 1 and Book 2 shed light on Sulla and her race, the Comyenti, and I was happy to see that the second novel added even more lovable and entertaining characters. Each and every one of the main and secondary protagonists has a full right to be in the story, and is nicely fleshed out.
I also love the way Hellenthal has added two such interesting heroes of totally opposite character traits, both wooing and intriguing Sulla. Felix and Shazar couldn’t be more different, and they too undergo changes and enhance the plot.
Anyone who loves a well written story involving fantasy creatures, conflicted humans, and romance with an interesting twist will love this Comyenti Series Book Bundle.

Thought-provoking Fantasy Drama!

The Comyenti Series Book Bundle is such a fantastic read and find. It contains the first two volumes which features a strong-headed female protagonist, an interesting species called comyenti, ancient clash between humans and comyentis and interesting struggle for survival, creatures with a twist from myths, a well-fleshed out history and background which as the read progresses reveals more and more. It is well-written in a nice pace, great dialogue and supporting characters, excellent storyline and several complex plots going on so it is never boring. The themes and messages are profound and thought-provoking, but never in a preaching manner which so often is the case when personal options of the author are thrown in. I never felt like the author was lecturing or speaking to me, no we as the readers are shown the consequences of our actions in a crafty way like a fairy tale for grown ups. These two books are also realistic novels with lifelike problems such as a love triangle, adoption versus birthchildren, bi-sexualty and family problems. Hellenthal is a definite master-storyteller and I can't wait for book three to come out! In the meantime I will treat myself with her other work including two stand-alone stories in this series.

Engaging ShapeShifting Fantasy

Fresh off the author’s novel The Queen’s Curse, which I loved, I had high expectations for these two books. I’m glad I wasn’t disappointed. She’s definitely on my shortlist of new and emerging fantasy authors to keep a lookout for as regards future titles.

Much of the fun with these two books comes with being inside Sula’s head, the magic of her shapeshifting, and communing with animals and nature. But there is much drama beyond that with her fighting for her own survival, the survival of her species, and with dealing with overwhelming nefarious forces. There’s a youthful feel to the characters and to the narrator’s voice that will go over well with the YA audience, who I suspect will respond the strongest to these back to back novels. If you’re not convinced of that, see how readily the author handles the dynamic between Felix and Sula, which powers us through act one of the first book, and you’ll see what I mean.

A Great Conclusion To An Amazing Series

(This is the third book in the series, so there are bound to be spoilers from the first two books. Read at your own risk.)

Lexi can’t get free from the evil trying to control her. Evil has a name: Sandra, Lexi’s DNA donor. On Lexi’s eighteenth birthday, Sandra starts sending ‘gifts’ that continue to escalate in severity. With all those that Lexi loves threatened, she wants to take revenge on the one who gave her life but also who is the driving force of destroying her life.

I really loved this book, but since I became a huge fan of Jonas’s, it was also a bit of torture. From the very beginning, I’ve said that there is something about Jake that just makes me not be able to absolutely love as a character. I really enjoyed Lexi and Jake’s relationship and growth in the first two books, but all throughout this book, I screamed for Lexi to want Jonas. That was never going to be a remote possibility because Lexi and Jake are so in love, but I couldn’t help but torture myself with that wish.

Getting past that, everything else about the book was amazing. The ending was very satisfying for the conclusion of the series (even though there is another book after this one). One thing in the end left me with some questions, but I’m sure (well, hoping really) that Heather Sunseri with give us an explanation for it later. I’ll be disappointed if there never is one, but it’s really not a huge thing to get caught up about.

I did actually find a typo in this book. At one point (I should have kept track), the name should have been ‘Alyson,’ but it was written ‘Sandra,’ and knowing the characters, that is a huge difference.

I really liked the introduction of new characters in this book, especially Lexi’s mom. The growth of the other relationships were wonderful as well. I liked seeing more of Coach and Seth. They were great people for Lexi to turn to.

I’m so impressed by how Heather Sunseri dealt with Lexi’s trust issues and grieving in this book. I really identified with her and her pain really came through in this book. When Lexi started pushing everyone away, Heather Sunseri made it so real. Other books so often struggle and fail at conveying these feelings, or they don’t let them last long enough to explore them fully. This book did an excellent job with them and helping Lexi move past them.

I’m so impressed with Heather Sunseri’s work and I really can’t wait to read more of it. She has an amazing imagination to have put this book together and she did a wonderful job in writing it. I’m also excited for the next book, even though it will be a bit of a change because it is focused on Kyle, but I have always wanted to get to know him more.

A Stellar Conclusion to the Trilogy

In a thrilling conclusion to Heather Sunseri's Mindspeak trilogy, she took me on a wild ride! Fascinating locations, breath-taking suspense, tender-hearted moments as well as some sizzling scenes with Jack and Lexi, and mind-blowing twists, Sunseri provided me with a satisfied sigh as I turned the last page. And for Jonas fans, you won't be disappointed either.

I truly loved each book in this series and am looking forward to more of Sunseri's novels.

Very intriguing

I enjoyed this book immensely. I gave it 4 stars because of the ending. I was totally confused on the wishy washy relationship between Alyson and Sandra. that was never explained and could have used more details.

The relationship between the H/H were very believable and kept me reading to find out what would happen to them next. I would recommend this series. it was a very good read.

Very interesting...

Dr. Morgan Shaw is a sex therapist at the Butterfield Institute. In all her years of work no person or group has ever asked her to sign a confidentially agreement. Morgan is insulted that this one has, but decides to sign it in the end. This new patient is really a group of twelve women who are part of a secret club, The Scarlet Society. None of the women really know the identities of the others. The group invite selected men to share anonymous pleasures of the night with them. The men are willing participates and always subservient to the women.

The Scarlet Society is shaking from its very foundation due to the murder of a male member. The women need to know how to grieve for a man that they cannot even admit they knew. The number one is inked on the soles of his feet, so no one is totally surprised when the number two appears on the second victim.

All information and photos of the victims are sent to NY Times news reporter Betsy Young. It is only through Betsy's mail that the police ever realize that something is going on. The bodies of the victims are not being found. All the police have to go on are photos from the anonymous sender to Betsy and matching them to missing person reports. This is very frustrating for Detective Mark Perez and his partner Detective Noah Jordain.

Could it simply be coincidence that leads Noah to Morgan's office? After all, they've shared a brief, but powerful, connection in a previous case. One thing is for sure, Morgan is too close to the killer for comfort.

**** If you have had the pleasure of reading this author's first best selling novel "Lip Service", then you already know how well M.J. Rose writes. This author has a way of explaining human nature and making you feel that is all very natural, yet still leaves you feeling awkward and uncomfortable. THAT, my readers, is TALENT! This time Rose takes that same talent, then adds in some mystery and suspense. I see awards in the author's future again. Recommended reading. ****

The Delilah Complex - Book 2

I am working my way through M.J. Rose's trilogy. Book 2 "The Delilah Complex" was every bit as good as her first "The Halo Effect". This can be read as a stand alone but I would really recommend that the series be read in order. M.J. Rose writes a thrilling, fast moving story and the pace picks up even faster as the book climaxes. I like how her characters continue from one book to the next, but also like how she includes a bit of the back story in the subsequent book and does this without it seeming to be repetitively boring. Series order; The Halo Effect (MIRA), The Delilah Complex (MIRA), The Venus Fix: A Dr. Morgan Snow Novel (Butterfield Institute, Book 3).

Interesting Mystery/quasi-erotica novel worthy of 3 1/2 stars

The Delilah Complex, e-book edition by M. J. Rose is an interesting mix of mystery and quasi-erotica.
Dr. Morgan Snow is a sex therapist at the Butterfield Institute and is persuaded to undertake the therapy of a group of women who represent, and all are part of, a secret sex society. The society meets at various times for parties that allow them to treat men, who also are secret adjunctive members and in need of domination, in a subservient manner. Some of the men disappear sequentially and pictures of their nude bodies are sent to a newspaper reporter, who must, of course, inform the police. Eventually, the culprit is discovered after a series of twists in the plot.
The story centers around Morgan's activities on behalf of the society and her relationship with her daughter Dulci, a thirteen-year-old who shows acting ability, Noah Jordain, a detective with whom she is enamored, Nina, the Institute Director and mother figure for Morgan, who lost her mother tragically, and the various members of the society she is counseling. Morgan is carrying a large amount of psychological baggage, as are the other characters. This, plus the setting, allows dissemination of a large amount of psychological material to be interspersed in a plot that provides multidirectional clues. Delineation of the culprit provides an interesting climax.
Some readers may find the abundant presentation of supportive psychological material a little heavy at times. Additionally, I find some of Morgan's activity and ability a little suspect. However, the plot is interesting, the characters and their problems are relatively well portrayed, and the action is adequate to move the story at a pleasant pace. Reviewed by John H. About the Author
I applied for the Japanese MEXT scholarship in the spring of 2008 and in April 2009 I was in Japan enjoying my first sakura (cherry blossoms) season. Living my dream felt like an illusion in the beginning and it was hard to accept that I was really in Japan. Little by little, I made friends, I started going around the country and interacted with many Japanese people. Shortly afterwards I entered a double master program within my university, started working part time and enjoyed travelling around Japan and Asia. Life couldn’t have been better and I loved every bit of it. Now I am writing these book series about my Japanese experience with the hope that you will also be inspired towards accomplishing your dream of not only visiting Japan but really experiencing this amazing country’s cool culture.

Rising hopes in the Land of the Rising Sun

If you have a love for Japan and even more if you wish to go and study there then this is the book for you. The Japanese government offers MEXT scholarships (Monobukagakusho Scholar ship offered by the Ministry of Education ,sport science and technology in Japan) Theses are at different levels going up to Masters and Doctorate degrees in fact there are seven different types. The author emphasis openness to change and a love for Japan .She also puts forward the important point of Japanese language proficiency before coming to Japan though some lectures and courses are in English. She recommends that you study Japanese daily even in times of relaxation and cultural assimilation. There is an excellent useful vocabulary at the end of the book to help.

Choosing and University and getting the right supervisor and professor are all covered. She points out that the authorities want you to succeed .She emphasises the Japanese understanding of 'ornotenashi' or hospitality and that Japanese are not talkative but want you to like their country. They expect students to choose a field of study and human resources are particularly important. Japanese people think about the other persons feelings and are considerate. They also find it difficult to start a conversation with foreigners so a move from the student about aspects of Japanese life will be most welcome. She emphasises enjoying life in Japan while showing respect for Japanese tradition and culture. You should know where you would like to study (Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto etc.) and have definite plan of what you want to do .

The technical side is covered as well as things like accommodation and interviews for scholarships. She even mentions about bringing small traditional gifts from your country to your professor and teachers . The book is 50 pages long but contains a lot and were you thinking of studying in Japan and under the age of 35 is to be recommended. Ruxandra's love for the Japanese comes through and her respect for them.If you want to study in Japan catch the authors vision.

The scholarship’s success can be measured in the large number of students who attend Japan universities from 160 countries and regions around the world.
Ruxandra Filip had little to no support when she decided to get her degree in Japan. Not allowing that to dull her dream, she spent more than two years learning the Japanese language and preparing herself for her quest. “Japanese MEXT Scholarship” is a result of her dedication, diligence and determination, and proof that if you can dream it, you can do it.

This is a comprehensive, easy-to-read resource, and I would recommend it to anyone interested in pursuing a research scholarship in Japan through the MEXT program. The insider's view not only details the author's experience but is able to explore further contingencies through the author's connections with others who have gone through the MEXT program.

While My Japanese Experience might have benefitted from a little polish to tweak style and tone and limit repetition, the author's passion for the country of Japan is extremely clear and shines a light of interest even on the more technical aspects of the subject.

I AM AN AVID READER who recently decided to mellow out on my review posting since it was time consuming.That is until I read Kidnapped or Saved....and really enjoyed it....and there are NO reviews! HOW?Azaria(love the name) is our feisty teenage heroine whom despite dismal domestic and social conditions holds on to her inner gumption and desire to amount to more than her environment should allow with a prostitute alcoholic mother and potential rapists salivating at "her door".Her protective older brother has enlisted and her only support system her ex boyfriend and his brothers hold little sway over the "system".Just when Azazia begins to lose hope her Salvation comes in the strangest of forms.This is not your typical abduction storyline and believe it or not it will warm your heart and have you cheering and gritting your teeth with the suspense along the way ! Look forward to more from Deanna Ballard.
