What would you do if the unthinkable happen to you?

If your have read any of Carolyn McCray and Ben Hopkins books you already know the amount of research they put into their work. These two are the most prolific writers I have ever encountered with a list a mile long of their accomplishments all of them great books to read. I have had the privilege to work as a reader for them and I have to admit that each and every book they send is better than the last, this one being their latest.
Have you ever read something that really, really hit home? Well be prepared! This series is going to be one of those. Cam and Harper are the most unusual women. They have been to hell and not ashamed to let anyone in on the secrets they found there. Cam's little boy was kidnapped and to this day she still prays to find him. She has not given up on one thing, HOPE! She dotes on her remaining children, triple girls. Harper however is not in the same boat, she only wished she was. Her husband, murdered her only child. No hope ever will bring him back.
Two women so completely different meet and come together, ready to share those secrets that they both learned while they were there. They form a company called Empty Crib, where they work with couples that have had their child taken. The experiences that they both have gone through allows them to help guide others through the process, even though each time forces them to relive their own hell, each and every time.
What did I like? In this case it's really hard to explain.... first, I sincerely liked the story line. I would think that every parent has this fear no matter what age their child or grandchild is or even a loved one, so to have someone that has also gone through the torment with them would help. Second, I loved the characters, so different and yet so complete as a team.
What did I dislike? I guess this is obvious! How can anyone ever take another person's child? Sometimes you can have empathy for them because maybe they have lost one but most of the time it is so horrendous that it is unthinkable. But life throws these curves of all kinds and there is nothing we can do about it.
What will you like? A Story that will reach your core and touch it! Even though it's one that we never want to go through, this is filled with such heart, laughter, tears, compassion and determination. It will take you on a trip that will touch you as no other has. The people that Cam and Harper meet and help will have their lives changed. Some good and some not so good but changed never the less! This series will be one that you will want to follow all the way to the end. I for one will be putting it on my "to be 're-read list" for sure.
So far Ben and Carolyn have written the first short story called "Child's Play", then the main book "Amber Alert" and followed by another short "Rock-a-bye Requiem". You won't want to miss any of them. Child's Play introduces us to Cam and Harper and their experiences. Then Amber Alert takes us into their cases, plus introduces us to Detective Eli Curtis. These two women also change his life. Join me to find out how and the incredible journey of Cameron Holden and Harper Pembroke.

The Book Grew On Me

I was given a copy of this book for free in exchange for my honest review and that I shall be glad to give. This book is quite a bit different from the others I've read by this author and it deals with a woman who lost one of her children 7 years before- he went missing and they still haven't found him alive or dead so she and her best friend who also lost her son in a different way form an organization to help other families who've lost a child and are looking for them.
First off, let me say that in general, I'm really not into child abduction books. I don't have kids and it's not something I'm interested in reading about in general but this story grabbed me as I went along. I found irritating qualities to all 3 of the main characters- Harper, Cam and Eli but that also gave them realistic qualities that you could get attached to as the story progressed because even with some of their irritating habits, they were all trying to do what they thought was right. Even though there were a couple of suspects in the book, I did have my eye on one person as the story went along and what leads to the apprehension takes a different turn. All in all, there was enough drama, mystery & even some humour, to keep me interested in this book and I think if you enjoy a good mystery, even if this book's main topic isn't something you're normally into, you'll end up enjoying the read.

A parent's nightmare

Great new series by these two authors. The have managed to tackle an issue that haunts almost all parents. What would you do if your child was abducted? As a reader, you follow along as the two main characters try to find a missing child. And they do this all while reliving the horrors of the their own missing children. Cam and Harper opened Empty Nest to help parents deal with the terrors of a missing child, but you also get to see their struggles as they try to heal after they own horrors. Cannot wait for the next book in the series.
