A Q&A with Author April M. Reign

Q.You are very prolific. What’s your secret for getting so much work done?

A. My secret is consistency. Every day, I sit in front of my laptop and I write. I may only write 200 words (on a bad day) or 3000 words (on a good day) but there is never a day that goes by when I don’t write.

Q. Who are some of your favorite authors?

A. I fell in love with reading at the age of fourteen. I started the series Flowers in the Attic by V.C. Andrews. That series sparked this insatiable need to read more. Over time, I’ve read and enjoyed books by: Nora Roberts, Stephen King, James Patterson, Sandra Brown, Jude Deveraux, And many more.

Q. Are there any new authors that have grasped your interest?

A. With the increase of indie authors, there are gems everywhere. I’ve enjoyed books like The Body Departed by J.R. Rain and Divergent by Veronica Roth. I recently read The Edge to Never by J.A. Redmerski.

Q. From the looks of it, you have five series and several standalone books in different genres and you’re branching out into horror. Which genre do you enjoy the most?

A. So far, I’ve written in Romance, Mystery thrillers, Sci-Fi, Urban Paranormal, and supernatural horror. Each genre has fulfilled my need to dabble in categories across the board. I don’t have a favorite genre. I thrive in the elements of the story and the characters. I do have to admit, I love the adrenaline rush of writing a fast-paced fight scene.

Not as good as the first two :(
By Melissa Martin's Reading List Blog
I am actually sad about this book, it's the third book in the trilogy and it just wasn't as good as the first two.

I'm not really sure what went wrong for me on this book. I mean they escaped Earth and are on their way to Ceren. Aric is supposed to take his place as King and Jade is going to be the Queen. They have some bumps along the way having to try to train Aric in how to be a warrior and stopping at a planet when they see their distress beacon.

There were problems with Jade's baby, but they got that figured out when the baby did a sort of mind meld with Jade. So she gave birth to a healthy baby.

The book just seemed so distant, no pun intended.

There was no reaching the planet and celebrating or learning about the people/aliens. Aric and Jade didn't seem like the same people to me. It's hard to explain. I was hoping for them to get there, get married, have the baby, deal with all kinds of craziness while there but still be themselves.

The ending wasn't what I expected either. It ended as if a continuation but if this is the third in the trilogy then it didn't end that way.

In my opinion I feel like someone hurried the author to push this book out because she did such a wonderful job on the other two books and this didn't seem like her at all.

I still liked the book, just not as awesome as the first two so I'm going with a lower rate, which sucks :/

The Queen rules!
By EFinn1
Free of the frightening events on Earth and their escape from Startech, Jade and Aric are ready to return to Ceren and begin their new life. But just when all seems idyllic, some thing goes very wrong. Will Jade have to give her life for her child's? How far will she and Aric have to go to be accepted by the Ceren people? And what of Copeland who carries a criminal's metal? April Reign writes an amazing story from several viewpoints that allows you to live in the character's thoughts. This book is a roller coaster of a story- love, fear, intrigue, sacrifice and every emotion in between. And the technology is pretty cool too.

Queen of Ceren
By Wise Young
The title says it all. This is the story of Jade and Arik, as the two become respectively the queen and king of Ceren. Instead of a young woman who is just coming to grips with the fact that she has an alien imprint inside her, she has embraced this imprint to become the queen of an alien people, so she can be with her husband and her son Stephen. The book has to shift its foundations from a "coming of age" story to a "maturing to become queen" story. Instead of doubts and teenage fantasies, she has to become all-knowing and self-sacrificing. The tension is different but the author's story telling skills are still evident. At the beginning of the book, Mr. Copeland, that mysterious professor who was part of Startech, the company started by Visan, the arch-enemy of Arik and Jade, had taken up the imprint of Visan. It is clear that he is going to be the villain. Meanwhile, both Arik and Jade grow into their roles as rulers of Ceren as their spaceship travelled through space from Earth to Ceren. The story has become starwar-like in breadth. The destinies of Earth and the universe are at stake. The Ceren and imprint technology unfortunately has become too omnipotent and omniscient for the story. If Arik and Jade really have so much knowledge and power, how can such stupid things still be happening to them? They keep having avoidable disasters that endanger their lives and the future of the universe. For this reason, I deduct a star. The premise of the book has become implausible enough that it is detracting from the story. But, if you are able to turn a blind eye to this discrepancy, it is an enjoyable story
