Why would you end it this way????????????
By Jen (Red Hot Books)
I will never understand for the life of me why an author would choose to end a series this way. Generally, I am not a big fan of serials, but I am a fan of Jocelynn Drake. I have enjoyed her Asylum Tales books (and the Dark Days series before that.) I was actually excited to see what she would do to resolve Gage’s issues, so serial or not, I knew I would be reading.

It’s actually a good thing that this story was released in sections, because that allowed me to tell you how much I enjoyed the beginning and was captivated through the middle. Only to be so thoroughly disappointed at the end.

When this installment began, I was already wondering how Drake was going to manage to tie up the story in just nine more chapters. The action was so big. There were so many things going on. There’s the killer that’s targeting pregnant women, the Death Magic user, the Towers, Gideon, Trixie, Lilith, and the demons; all hugely important. I knew in the back of my head that maybe this would not all tie up in a neat and clean bow. What I didn’t expect, though, was what I got.

I don’t want to spoil it. But I will say that I consider the ending neither a HEA nor even a HFN. I found it to be decidedly unhappy –and largely unresolved. After the commitment of reading multiple novels and novellas prior to this point, I consider myself invested in Gage. I just can’t see how anyone who cares about this story could be ok with Drake leaving it this way. Especially when you know it’s the end of the series.

I’m at a loss.

Disappointing!
By GUY P
I really enjoyed this series and was looking forward to reading the finale book. So disappointed! I don't understand why the series ended the way it did and thus feel betrayed to be left hanging. Very disappointing after committing to take this journey with these characters. This is the first time I actually wish I had never started a series. Shame.

I enjoyed the series
By Stephanie
I enjoyed the series, and I would like to *keep* enjoying the series, at least until the plot arcs that pervaded the multiple books and novellas prior to this book are wrapped up. While trying to avoid egregious spoilers, I'll say that I am stunned at how Drake left the reader hanging on so many levels. I mean, why bring in Lilith at all if you're going to leave that entire storyline, that has been a source of angst for Gage for so many pages, just completely up in the air? What about Squall, where does he fit in? Why did we undergo this ride of the star-crossed lovers if that is going to be left as up-in-the-air as it was in the beginning of "Angel's Ink"? It felt like the author tossed out a bunch of very cool conflict kegs and then decided "Meh, I don't want to write about Gage anymore" and pulled a "Lady and the Tiger" on us.

I will not be buying any more books by this author. I like her writing style, but this was absolutely too frustrating to risk again.

The e-book edition was riddled with typos, as well; missing words, words used in the incorrect tense, and several repeated letters within words. I'd suggest the copy editor re-read this. Especially the points where it got confusing, such as when Gage is saying something along the lines of "If we do that, it will bring the Towers straight here, and we need the Towers!" ...I'm pretty sure there was supposed to be a "don't" tucked in there somewhere.
