Kevin Douglas Wright is the founder of the free and low cost online education web site www.EducateZap.com. Mr. Wright earned a BS in Management from Pennsylvania State University and an Associate of Science in Information Technology from Keiser University. He has worked for major corporations and companies and also is the producer, writer, and director of the psychological horror film `Royal Love Story From The Grave.'
In this fascinating little book Wright states that many people view education form the eyes of a sleepwalker and even view our lives n the same way - an unwanted habit of not paying attention and not keeping track of the important things in life. The subject Wright uses is a young high school grad who is sleepwalking through life - not cognizant of the ever-growing presence of the social media. Once aware of the online learning he mastered low cost schooling and became upgraded. And the author makes the point of the book very easy - just visit his site www.EducateZap.com and there find instruction and a new outlook and discover what is out there job-wise after graduating from school - meet people, get a better job, and make everything happen.

A message of hope

While this is a very short book (the author calls it a "booklet"), Kevin Douglas Wright, gets to the heart of the issue for many young adults, those who have completed high school (whether recently or not) and who have not gone to college, presumably because they don't think they can afford to (or perhaps do not see the value of it). Wright considers the case of a fictitious fellow named Nathan who has gone to high school, is social media illiterate, in debt, and has a fulltime job that has been reduced to part time. Such a person is seemingly in a hopeless situation.
However, there is hope. There are low-cost options, such as community colleges and online education, which, if Nathan takes advantage of them, can give him the skills he needs to successfully negotiate adult life.
Although presented with extreme brevity, Wright is making an essential point. You can gain the skills you need to succeed in adult life without spending huge amounts of money on a college education. As someone who taught at the community-college level for nearly twenty years before retiring, I am happy to see someone presenting this message of hope for those who might think they do not have the resources to succeed.

A quick read that will resonate with many young people today

I know at least a dozen young adults who are struggling to find their way after high school, trying to figure out what to do with their lives. College is important (in my opinion), but it's not the only path to success. And college can saddle a young person with massive debt they will be paying off for a decade or more. There are so many choices for further education - private college, state college, community college, trade or business school - and endless choices for a career if you know what you want and where to look.
Kevin Douglas Wright has written a short, simple to understand booklet for those very same struggling young people and their families. He introduces "Nathan", a young man with no real plans, a lot of debt and a job that is suddenly downsized. Nathan has thus far drifted along through adulthood without any plans or skills, and he's starting to pay the price. To add to his disadvantages, he wasn't really up to speed on computers and social media, and missed out on a lot of opportunities because of it.
Part of the advice given in this book is to visit Mr. Wright's website (EducateZap.com) to learn about "Free and Low Cost Online Education". Although this book promotes his website, I feel that anything that points young people in the right direction is a good thing. The website has links to lots of information concerning free or low cost education, and encouragement too.
If you know a young adult who is aimless, focus-less, and needs a little push in the right direction, give them this book.
