The Best Part: It's All True!

Dan Ernst and Constance Cherba, building on work started by Vic Sprengelmeyer, have done a wonderful job of bringing this story to life from a very unique perspective, that of the legal battles surrounding the staging of the Wadena Rock Festival. They have woven the recollections of more than a dozen participants, including my own, into a compelling, tension filled story that captures not only the potentially explosive events of July 1970 that turned upside down the little town of Wadena, Iowa, but the larger political and cultural context in which it took place. I was right in the middle of the Wadena Festival yet I learned a lot of details I had never known before. If you love a good legal/political battle featuring a massive culture clash between the hip generation, idealist entrepreneurs, talented young lawyers and the political establishment exploding in a sleepy little Iowa farm town all played out to the beat of 3 days of incredible music staged in a corn field, then you will love this book.

I was 17 years old when I 'disappeared' from my hometown of Atlantic, Iowa and magically appeared smack in the center of a rock festival in the corn fields of Iowa. Memories were made that would last me a lifetime. Thanks for this great read.
